Christmas came early for two of the region's leading charities as the annual Exeter Chiefs Foundation/Wooden Spoon lunch helped to raise over £30,000.

Having been forced to cancel the event last year due to the ongoing pandemic, the festive gathering made a sparkling return with over 400 people in attendance at Exeter's Sandy Park.

With both charities outlining the effect the pandemic has had on their fundraising exploits, the chance to raise vital funds for these two very worthy causes was not going to go amiss.

Hosted by former England Rugby international and TV pundit, David Flatman, guests and supporters of both charities were suitably wined and dined with a traditional Christmas three-course lunch prepared by Sandy Park Head Chef Craig Beacham.

This was followed with entertainment from the SW Comms Band, Comedian Tank Sherman, as well as a special Q&A session involving the four British & Irish Lions from Exeter Chiefs, Luke Cowan-Dickie, Jonny Hill, Stuart Hogg and Sam Simmonds.

The day was capped off with a hugely impressive auction, which included signed Exeter Chiefs and British & Irish Lions jerseys.
